Guided hiking in Málaga
Ronda mountains
Hiking isn’t what comes to mind when you think of Málaga in southern Spain, but there are actually quite a few pretty awesome mountain walks within an hour of downtown Málaga. We offer guided hiking to some of the best places to hike near Ronda based in our own experience and expert opinions.
For example, the charming Genal Valley, which sits between Ronda and the Costa del Sol, is a paradise for hikers and wildlife lovers offering a huge green valley full of forests and timeless white villages. Certainly there are few regions as evocative and unspoilt as the Genal valley, which is made up of a collection of 16 villages within the Serranía de Ronda, some of which are literally off the map.
Certainly tourism is not generally developed in the Genal valley giving those that venture into each authentic village the sense of getting to know the ‘real Spain’ or at least, how it used to be when people lived simpler and slower paced lives.
A valley of timeless beauty
As you admire the stunning mountainous scenery around you, the charms of the Genal valley are all too credible. You’ll be surrounded by a vast landscape of oak and chestnut trees and craggy peaks.
When to hike the mountain trails near Ronda?
Without a doubt, the best time to visit this expansive valley -spread over 42,000 hectares between the coast and Ronda – is November and December when the chestnut trees turn the slopes into a glorious display of golden brown and the nearby tracks are strewn with chestnuts to pick up.
But what is more interesting about the area it is you can find different varieties of chestnut trees, some up to 500 years old.
