Walking holidays

Málaga, Andalusia

Standing prominently in southern Spain, Málaga offers some cool Natural Parks with sweeping views. There are a few ways to hike, and this article covers our favourite routes. This is a great “off-the-beaten-path” hike where you never see crowds, making for a peaceful and pleasurable experience. Let’s hiking in Málaga on two incredible National Parks

Sierra de las Nieves walking trails

The Parque Natural Sierra de las Nieves is a hunting reserve, and the wildlife is abundant and impressive. It covers an area of 30km by 20km or 18,530 hectares. Inside, there are no paved roads, only forest tracks that part of the road linking the villages of the region or from them. And the views, too, are outstanding and frequently breathtaking. A far cry from the average tourists’ idea of Spain. This mountainous area is cut by deep ravines and spectacular gorges. As a result, some of them get more than 100 metres fall.

The name “Nieves” refers to the winter snow. As it suggests, the park is sometimes snow-covered in winter. It offers a stunning diversity of over 1,500 species of plants and animals, making it famous for its variety of flora and fauna, the magnificence of its ancient topography, extensive and significant geological, paleontological, archeological and biological resources. There are more than miles of trails to explore, but you can’t go wrong with any of these four hikes.

Montes de Málaga hikes

The Montes de Málaga natural park is just 5km from the city of Málaga. In fact, the almost-5,000-hectare wide park consists of rolling hills and mountains with many streams that cut through the park and fall into the Guadalmedina river. Here, keep your eyes along the way, to see arid plants and rotating seasonal displays. For example, the slopes are planted with pines and offer beautiful views of the Mediterranean countryside and coast. In the same way it is a biologically diverse area that is home to endangered species and a variety of birds. Main activities to do in the Montes de Malaga Natural Park are hiking and bicycle touring. The National Park is now home to trails where you can spot everything. For instance, we find five signposted walks in the park.
