Sierra de Grazalema offers an excellent record of being the country’s first Unesco biosphere in 1977, and in amongst the 53,400 hectares of this Natural Park, you’ll find all sorts of astonishing trails. Not only you can find the most famous hiking walks, such as El Torreón or Río Majaceite river trails, but also, you can walk through El Pinsapar trail, located in Sierra del Pinar. In this article, we’ll take you to one of the best forest and woodland walks you can do in southern Spain.

Hiking El Pinsapar trail

To begin with our trail, you will start in Benamahoma’s cemetery gate, ascending the road near to it. Throughout this stage, we will find holm and gail oak. Moreover, once we arrive at a signposted detour, we will take the road that leads us up to Grazalema. Following this trail, arriving at El Puerto del Pinar, the hike will regard you spectacular views of Zahara reservoir, El Torreón and San Cristobal peaks.

From this point on, we will be walking through El Pinsapar, which in the spring season, is fully leafy and blossomed. By the time we get into the point where spanish firs allow us to look at Caídas del Pinar. This is the place where this type of trees gather, leaving behind the snowfield. Eventually, we will arrive to el Puerto de las Cumbres. From this place, we observe the mountain range of sierra de Zafalgar, los Llanos de Rabel and Viña del Moro.

Continuing our hike, we give the first glances at Grazalema town and at its  Fresnillo reservoir. From here, we will begin or descend through a rocky route, surrounded by a replanted pine forest, leading us to Las Canteras or Los Areneros, located 1,55 miles from Grazalema white village.
